Let's be clear: we are cooks and recipe developers, not data brokers. We only collect the absolute bare minimum required to keep this website running smoothly, respond to your messages, and send you our newsletter.
Your Email Address
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we use your email address for exactly one purpose: to inspire you weekly with fantastic, perfectly translated global recipes. We never sell, rent, or share your email address with shady third parties. You can always unsubscribe with a single click at the bottom of every email. No hard feelings.
Contact form
If you use our contact form, we process your name, email address, message, and the language version of the form (Dutch or English). We use this information only to read and respond to your message. Contact-form details are not used to subscribe you to our newsletter.
We use Formspree to process and route contact-form submissions. Submissions are stored in our Formspree account. On our current Free plan, Formspree keeps 30 days of submission history.
Cookies and Google Analytics (Not the Edible Kind)
We don't do creepy cross-site tracking. Smaakkade uses functional browser storage (localStorage) on your device to remember your saved recipes and your cookie preference (sk_cookie_consent_v2), and we ask for explicit consent before loading any analytics scripts.
To understand which recipes and substitution guides are most useful, we use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-R5G3M5X9HY) configured with the conservative Basic implementation of Google Consent Mode v2:
- Blocked by default before your choice: When you first visit Smaakkade, all four Consent Mode v2 signals (
analytics_storage,ad_storage,ad_user_data, andad_personalization) default todenied. No Google Analytics script is loaded and no measurement pings are sent to Google before you make an explicit choice. - If you choose 'Essential only' (reject): Google Analytics is never loaded, no
_gacookies are set, and no cookieless measurement pings are sent to Google. - If you choose 'Accept analytics': Only
analytics_storageis updated togranted(whilead_storage,ad_user_data, andad_personalizationremaindenied). Your browser then loads Google Analytics 4 and sets first-party analytics cookies (such as_gaand_ga_R5G3M5X9HY) to measure pageviews and popular recipes. - Changing or revoking consent: You can review or withdraw your consent at any time via Cookie settings in the footer of every page or using the button below. If you switch back to Essential only, Google Analytics is immediately disabled, existing
_gacookies are cleared from your browser, and GA4 will not load on subsequent page navigations.
External Videos (YouTube)
Some of our recipe and ingredient pages include instructional videos hosted on YouTube (a Google service). To protect your privacy, Smaakkade does not automatically load embedded YouTube players or third-party thumbnails when you open or scroll through a page. Instead, we display a local preview card first.
Your browser only connects to YouTube's servers (via youtube-nocookie.com or youtube.com) when you actively click 'Load YouTube video' or follow the direct link to YouTube.com. Once activated, YouTube receives standard technical connection data (such as your IP address and browser information) under Google/YouTube's own privacy policy.
