About Smaakkade

Global dishes, practical kitchens

Smaakkade is an independent food publication dedicated to making international dishes practical for kitchens in the Netherlands. Many international recipes assume ingredients or shopping habits that do not map neatly onto the Netherlands.

Our starting point is careful research. We compare trustworthy culinary references, recipe demonstrations and other relevant sources, then bring them together into one clear recipe. If a chef has genuinely contributed, reviewed part of a recipe or shared a method, we only say so when that contribution is documented.

Practical cooking in the Netherlands

Cooking with what you can find

A large part of our approach centers on ingredients. In our ingredient guides, we research alternatives and explain the effect a substitution will have on the final flavor and function of a dish.

Where availability has been verified, we explain whether an ingredient can be found through mainstream Dutch retailers or whether a toko or specialist shop is likely to be more useful.

Culinary input

For selected recipes, we may draw on culinary input from a chef at Tetería Alhambra in Granada. When a chef has actually reviewed part of a recipe or shared a method, we make that contribution clear on the relevant recipe page.
